The Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48) is a 6-lane expressway spanning approximately 280 km, connecting the national capital to the Pink City. It is one of India's most important trade corridors, carrying over 60,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) daily. The journey typically takes 4-5 hours by car, depending on traffic conditions, particularly near the Delhi-Gurugram stretch and the Jaipur entry points.
The highway has six toll plazas: Kherki Dhaula (Gurugram), Manesar, Dharuhera, Shahjahanpur, Kotputli, and Lalsot. Each plaza charges a fee based on the length of the concession for which it is responsible. The cumulative one-way toll for a standard car is approximately ₹450 via FASTag, making it one of the more expensive intercity corridors in North India.
Kherki Dhaula toll plaza, located near the Delhi-Gurugram border, charges approximately ₹85 for cars via FASTag. This is one of the busiest plazas in India, handling over 1.5 lakh vehicles daily. Manesar plaza charges ₹55, Dharuhera ₹70, Shahjahanpur ₹80, Kotputli ₹75, and Lalsot ₹85. Combined, these add up to the total of about ₹450 for a one-way car trip.
For trucks and commercial vehicles, the costs multiply significantly. A 2-axle truck pays approximately ₹1,125 one-way (2.5x multiplier), while a multi-axle truck can pay up to ₹2,025 (4.5x). For a Delhi-Jaipur round trip in a car, expect to pay around ₹900 in total toll charges, which can be reduced to approximately ₹630 with a monthly pass if you travel regularly.
For budget-conscious travellers, the alternative NH-11 route via Alwar and Bhiwandi offers a longer but cheaper option. This route adds approximately 50 km and 1-1.5 hours to the journey but bypasses major toll plazas, reducing toll costs to around ₹150. However, road conditions on this route vary, and it is less suitable for night travel or heavy vehicles.
Using FASTag is essential for this corridor. Cash payments result in double charges at FASTag-exclusive lanes, and most toll plazas on NH-48 have limited cash lanes, leading to longer wait times. TollRoute recommends planning your journey during off-peak hours (before 8 AM or after 9 PM) to avoid the worst congestion near Kherki Dhaula, particularly on weekends when Delhi-Gurugram traffic peaks.
For daily commuters between Delhi and Jaipur, NHAI's monthly pass programme offers substantial savings. A monthly pass valid across all NH-48 toll plazas costs approximately ₹3,500 for cars — equivalent to just 7-8 round trips. Regular travellers making 20+ trips per month save over 60% compared to paying per trip. The pass can be purchased online through the NHAI FASTag portal.
Business travellers and logistics companies can also explore the optional annual pass scheme recently introduced by NHAI for high-frequency users. The annual pass costs ₹35,000 for cars and provides unlimited travel on the Delhi-Jaipur corridor for 12 months. For fleet operators with multiple vehicles, NHAI offers bulk pass discounts of 5-10% for fleets of 10 or more vehicles enrolled in the scheme.
